Commander Samples 0.17% U3O8 Over 1.15 Metres At Hermitage
| ||Commander Resources Ltd. (CMD-TSX Venture) reports results from the trenching and prospecting program completed late in 2007 on the Hermitage uranium property in southern Newfoundland. |
- Discovery of bedrock uranium mineralization grading 0.17% U3O8 over 1.15 metres at the White Bear No. 3 (WB3).
- Discovery of additional radiometric boulders grading up to 0.48% U3O8 within 50 metres of the WB3 bedrock mineralization.
- Discovery of bedrock uranium mineralization grading up to 0.13% U3O8 in a 175 metre long trenched area at He2.
- Discovery of a new radiometric boulder field east of the Doucette prospect with high grade values of 0.28% and 0.36 % U3O8.
In combination with news releases dated January 18th and February 4th, the Company has reported complete results from the fall trenching, track edge surveys, prospecting, soil sampling and geophysics program and will now use this data to plan for the next phase of drilling.
At WB3, trenching in the area of the original boulder discovery hit radiometric zones in near vertical dipping stratigraphy. Bedrock available for sampling was limited by deepening overburden so the actual width of the mineralized zone is unknown. The radiometric zone at WB3 remains open past the end of the trench and trenches on either side of this mineralized zone failed to reach bedrock, which leaves this significant new bedrock discovery open along strike in both east and west directions. At He2, eleven trenches dug over a distance of 300 metres were excavated to follow-up a 0.10% U3O8 interval intersected in drill hole WB-07-16 (previously reported). Radiometric bedrock was reached along a 175 metre portion of the area trenched. Ten composite chip samples returned uranium values ranging from 62 ppm to 0.13% U3O8 including 0.045% U3O8 from a trench immediately above the projected surface trace of drill hole 16 and 0.13% U3O8 from a trench located 100 metres to the west of hole 16. No bedrock was hit in a series of small pits dug to the north and up ice from hole 16 leaving potential open for further evaluation. HE2 Trench and Sample Map
At He1, five pits and one short trench reached bedrock but no radiometric anomalies were encountered. The He1 radiometric anomaly covers 800 metres of stratigraphy, which remains to be evaluated. At He4, trenching revealed granite as the source for the radiometric anomaly and At He3 and He18A bedrock was not reached in the trenches.
The new boulder discovery located 400 metres east of the Doucette uranium prospect was made in an area of dense vegetation cover. Six grab samples exceeded 0.10% U3O8 with the highest two running 0.28% and 0.36 % U3O8. The boulder field is about 100 metres in diameter and occurs within the same magnetic trend that hosts Doucette. A number of pits were excavated with the backhoe, however bedrock was not reached. The trenching program was completed using a track mounted backhoe capable of digging to approximately 4.5 metres depth. The area is generally covered by extensive, shallow overburden, however, however several anomalies were not trenched as cover was too deep. Over 100 excavations were made as part of the program; narrow pits were spaced at 25 metre intervals in target areas to test for bedrock prior to trenching. All trenches were backfilled prior to program end.

Each trench sample consisted of rock chips/grab samples collected from exposed bedrock rubble at the base of the trench. Channel samples were collected from 5 centimetre slots cut by diamond saw and chisel. All samples were sent to ACME Analytical Laboratory, Vancouver, BC where they were analyzed for 36 elements using 1DX method analysis. Uranium values were determined by Group 4 ICP mass spectrometry following a lithium borate fusion and nitric acid digestion of a 0.2g sample. All uranium values expressed in U3O8 are calculated from uranium analyses received from ACME Analytical Services and reported in ppm U. Select samples will be sent to SRC in Saskatoon for check assay.
