|
| | Commander Resources Ltd. (CMD -- TSX Venture) provides an update on exploration activities on the South Voisey's Bay Nickel project, Baffin Gold project and the Storm Copper project.
South Voisey's Bay, Labrador
The current phase of diamond drilling on the Labrador properties has been completed. Two of the three sub-horizontal geophysical anomalies on the Adlatok1 and Sally properties, highlighted in the Company's news releases dated August 14, 2008 were tested with a single hole each. A third hole was drilled on a strong geophysical target located on the adjacent Sarah Lake property (owned 48.3% by Commander Resources Ltd. and 51.7% by Donner Metals Ltd).
The Sarah Lake hole encountered disseminated sulphides averaging 5 to 10% pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite from 194.0 metres to 196.95 metres at the base of a 180 metre thick gabbro complex. This interval included three narrow semi-massive pyrrhotite zones with minor chalcopyrite, each about seven centimetres wide. This gabbro complex, which includes the key basal contaminated gabbro and gabbro breccias, is the main nickel sulphide host in the South Voisey's Bay area. The hole was drilled on a strong, discrete conductor in an area where four peripheral and widely-spaced historical drill holes supported the presence of the gabbro and sulphides but with weak EM signatures.
The two holes drilled on the 72.7% owned Adlatok1 and 100% owned Sally properties intersected neither massive sulphide nor gabbro, both of which were interpreted to be present by the company's geophysical consultants.
Commander's technical team does not feel that the drill results fully explain the sub-horizontal electromagnetic conductors identified by surface geophysical surveys. To help resolve this, Commander sampled key portions of the drill holes to measure rock geophysical characteristics and will work with the data to determine the source and cause of the geophysical anomalies.
All significant sulphide bearing intervals were sampled and sent for assay.
Baffin Gold Project, Nunavut
A program of detailed sampling, prospecting and mapping in the area of the Hebert mineralized trend, originally discovered in 2007 and summarized in the Company's news release dated October 2, and November 26, 2007, was completed in the month of August. Numerous channel samples were collected from continuous quartz veins and areas of strong arsenopyrite mineralization for assay. More detailed information will be provided when the assays are received.
Storm Copper Project, Nunavut
A technical report is currently being prepared by Scott Wilson RPA on the Storm property. A site visit was made in late July by a representative of Scott Wilson RPA to collect data necessary to qualify the historical drill results reported in the Company's news release dated April 8, 2008. A slide presentation from this site visit can be found on the Company's website. In addition, a sealift order of fuel was sent up to Resolute Bay this season in advance of a possible program in 2009.
Bernard Kahlert, P.Eng, is the Company's Qualified Person (QP) responsible for the content of this release and for the supervision of the drill program in Labrador.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
