PROPERTY DETAILS: Possible 80,000 -- 120,000 ounces in-situ gold deposit completely open down plunge at depth OWNERSHIP: 100% Commander Resources Ltd. (CMD) LOGISTICS: 14 km northwest of Springdale 7 km southwest of Kings Point Direct access from Orion to Highway 391 via a 4 km logging road SUMMARY: Commander Resources Ltd. (formerly Major General Resources) , actively explored the Green Bay Project area since first acquiring the Rendall-Jackman property in 1989. A successful exploration campaign culminated in the detailed delineation of the Hammerdown gold deposit which was subsequently sold to Richmont Mining. Richmont actively mined the deposit from 2000 to 2004. The ore was trucked for processing at the Nugget Pond Mill. Mine Records show 315,000 Tonnes were mined, 157,000 ounces gold was recovered with an average grade of 16.1 g/t. At the time of mining Hammerdown, the price of gold averaged $275 per ounce. In 1995, Commander discovered and drill-tested the Orion gold occurrence 1700 m southwest of the Hammerdown deposit. At the time of mining Hammerdown, the low price of gold precluded consideration of Orion for development. Drilling at 50 m x 40 m spacing at Orion indicate that 80,000 to 120,000 ounces in-situ gold may be present. Current metal prices of over $900 per ounce change the economics of the deposit. Additional in-fill drilling is required to define the orebody and allow resource calculations to meet current standards. Discovery of Orion was assisted through financial assistance of the NEXAP program. ![]() Click to Enlarge PROPERTY GEOLOGY: The Orion Gold Deposit lies within the extensive Hammerdown Deformation Corridor approximately 1700 metres southwest of the former producing Hammerdown Gold Deposit. It comprises four separate lenses. At present, three zones (Main, Discovery, EMS) contain potentially ore grade material. The zones are characterized by easterly dipping, subvertical, high-grade auriferous quartz-pyrite veins within envelopes of lower gold grade. A number of quartz feldspar porphyry dykes are emplaced into the gold-bearing deformation zone. Locales of emplacement of the veins are as follows:
A 12 Hole, 3,500 metre drill program is recommended for infill and extension testing of the Orion Deposit. Some of the better drill intercepts presented below in Table 2. ![]() Click to Enlarge EXPLORATION POTENTIAL: Recent re-evaluation of the Orion Gold deposit shows that the mineralized zone is completely open at depth in an easterly direction. The plunge direction of the higher grade zones is about -40% to the northeast as can be seen in the contoured longitudinal section below. This trend is parallel to the Horsehead Fault and may be structurally related. As there has been no drilling below 225 metres in the plunge direction, the opportunity to locate additional gold resources at Orion is significant. These calculations indicate that a resource of just over 80,000 ounces gold may exist at a 5 g/T cutoff grade, which may increase to just over 120,000 ounces gold at a cutoff grade of 3 g/T Au. Potential for a substantial increase in this inventory lies both down-plunge and immediately to the northeast of the currently drilled portion of the deposit. Reinterpretation of the local geology indicates the presence of a N-S fault which may have down dropped the eastern extensions of the zones by 150 metres. ![]() Click to Enlarge Location of ore deposits, available mills and transportation routes ![]() Click to Enlarge Excellent infrastructure with highway access to an existing mill is key to future development of the Orion Gold Deposit. It is anticipated that a successful mining operation at Orion would involve transport of the ore via truck to the Nugget Pond Mill. This mill successfully recovered over 96% of the gold from the Hammerdown deposit, which has very similar mineralogy to the Orion gold mineralization.
