Storm Copper Property, 43-101 Technical Report, February, 2009 (PDF 2.59mb)

OVERVIEW

The Storm Property is 154,021.32 acres in size and hosts a large area of carbonate-hosted copper mineralization (Storm Copper) and a zone of zinc-silver silver mineralization (Seal.)

It is located on the northwest corner of Somerset Island, Nunavut. The Seal zinc-silver zone sits on tidewater on a Peninsula that extends into Aston Bay. The Storm Copper area is located approximately 20 kilometres inland from the Seal zone.

The property is well-located in a flat region that has access to tidewater and shipping lanes.

The hamlet of Resolute Bay is the closest aerodrome located about 150 kilometres to the north on Cornwallis Island. Resolute would be the staging area for work here and provides reasonably good services.

The entire property area was acquired by Commander in 2008 through the award of three Prospecting Permits, which are valid for a term of five years.

The total cost of the acquisition was $15,021.32. This money will be refunded upon completion of an equivalent amount of exploration work within the first two years.

HISTORY

Work over the years on the property and larger land area of northern Somerset included airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys, extensive soil geochemistry, ground geophysics (IP, HLEM and UTEM) and diamond drilling.

Historical work on Seal

  • Zinc mineralization was discovered initially in the early 1970's,

  • The second hole of the first drilling program in 1995 intersected 10.5% Zn, 28 g/t Ag over a drilled width of 18 metres.

  • Additional drilling in 1995 and 1996 resulted in a small deposit described in the assessment reports as being about 2 Mt grading 8% Zn with some silver credits.

  • This zone was named the "Seal Deposit" by Cominco geologists.

Historical Work on Storm

  • In 1996, Cominco geologists discovered large chalcocite boulders in a stream bed about 20 km inland from the Seal deposit.

  • Copper mineralization, hosted by Paleozoic dolomite and limestone was found over a seven (7) kilometre structural trend.

  • Exploration work by Cominco in 1997 and 1999 and later by Noranda (now Xstrata) in 2000 and 2001 led to the discovery of four centres of copper mineralization, the 4100N, 2750N, 2200N and 3500N zones.

  • Seventeen holes were drilled in 1997. A Total of 4560.8 metres of diamond drilling was completed in 41 holes in 1999 and a further 1,348.5 metres in eight holes was drilled in 2000.

  • Following Noranda's program in 2000 and 2001, no further work was done on the property due to low metal prices. The claims gradually lapsed over the subsequent 6 years as the credits ran out.
